29/9/19 Intercessions based on Luke 16:1-13, 1 Timothy 2:1-7 and Jeremiah 8: 18-9:1
“May supplications, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgivings be made for everyone.”
Let us pray for the church and for all the world and let us thank God for his goodness.
We pray for your church throughout the world, thanking you for the riches you have given us, thanking you for every person and community that responds to your call with love and service. We apologise for the ways in which we squander your gifts and live outside your kingdom. Help us to repent that we and your Church in all its forms may grow in goodness, devotion, service and wholeness. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
In our local church here at Cotham we ask for your blessing on tonight’s Foundation, tomorrow’s Drop In and Young People’s Group, the PCC meeting, our preparations for the Student Welcome, our prayers throughout Creation-tide, our Charity of the month and everything else that is happening here. For all that is happening and for all those connected with us no matter how remote that connection, Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
This Creation-tide we pray for our world crying out in the climate emergency. Help us to hear that humans, that we, are being called to account; help us to feel at one with our neighbours who are suffering as the climate changes; help us to wake up to a life based on long term relationships not power or consumption; help us to amend our lives in small ways and big. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
We pray for all in positions of authority, not least the leaders of our own country at this troubled time. May they hear your challenge in the struggles of the earth, in its threatened environments, and in the suffering and potential of your people. May all those with power and authority use their gifts to plan for and create an economy of grace so that all beings may live in peace and dignity.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We thank you for the example of Greta Thunberg and the uprising of young people around the world. May she and they be safe, may they remain enlightened in their vision, strengthened in their mission, may they be heard. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
You tell us that “for the hurt of my poor people I am hurt” and we pray for all who suffer in body, mind or spirit. In this parish we pray for ….. and all those suffering as a result of war, oppression and climate change. In the midst of their afflictions may they know the comfort and the hope of your presence. May we all find new ways to love you by loving those who suffer. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
We pray for those who have died recently, remembering ……. and in the year’s mind we remember…. May they know the joy of your nearer presence, may light perpetual shine upon them, may they rest in peace. Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Lord, we repent of all the ways we squander the miraculous life you have given us. We ask for your help that we might, moment by moment, choose you, choose grace, in the choices; that we might thus grow in faith, grace, love and service for the benefit of your kingdom
Merciful Lord, accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ. Amen
