Gardening for biodiversity and wildlife: getting closer to nature
Green Cotham is a project run by Cotham Parish Church in partnership with High Kingsdown Community Association and other communities in Cotham, inviting people to get closer to nature, meet others and help biodiversity and wildlife in the local area.
Come and learn in a supportive environment about gardening and how we can support urban wildlife.
Sessions are on Wednesday afternoons 2 – 4.30pm, meeting in the Cotham Parish Church carpark. The sessions are free, and all tools and gloves are provided, along with refreshments.
For any questions, email greencotham@gmail.com

Clothes you don’t mind getting a bit muddy.
The ideal clothes for gardening in hot weather are a minimum amount of heavy clothes balancing the need for sun protection.
The ideal clothes for gardening in cold weather are thin layers. Quite a few gardening activities get you feeling hot and it helps to be able to add and take away layers.
If the weather could be wet and rainy, we will still garden in light / medium / showery rain and so bring a raincoat and rain trousers if you’ve got them.
Water bottle, sun hat and sunscreen if weather is warm. If the weather is likely to go over 30°, we will retire the session into the Church.

Our Wednesday gardening drop in runs 2 - 4:30pm every Wednesday - just turn up, the turning up is the most important bit, if you can drop us an email to let us know you’re coming that helps, but it’s not essential. We can cater for up to 15 volunteers, it would be rare that we would have to turn you away.
We offer bespoke Group gardening sessions most days of the week including weekends for groups of up to 15 people. If you are a local business or charity, University Department, social group, group of any kind and would like to spend a couple of hours supporting our project please get in touch.
Most of our volunteering work requires some level of mobility, please get in touch if you would like to talk through your needs. Half of our sessions are at the Church and we can provide sitting activities on these days. We would like to be inclusive, do get in touch to discuss access and how we may be able to help.
“Gardening has improved my fitness and I feel calmer when I’m gardening, it feels good to get outside and I feel what we do is appreciated by others. ”
- David
“I feel like I’m making a difference, and you really feel like you’re helping make the area look nicer”.
